One Pan Pasta with Bacon and Peas (1)

Are you all tired of my one pan dinners yet? Because I’m not going to lie – I’m not. I have a new one for you today, and I’m not going to promise that it’s the last one. Because chances are that it won’t be. 🙂

The way that life has been recently, I’m all about the easy way out. And I won’t sugar coat it – I’m not the cleanest cook in the kitchen. I try my hardest to clean as I go, but on a normal night, I’ll be serving dinner while the kitchen looks as if a tornado came through. The worst part about it is that after you go through the effort of making dinner, cleaning up is last thing you want to do.

One Pan Pasta with Bacon and Peas (2)

I think that is the main reason I am in love with these one pan meals. Less dishes used equals less dishes to wash after dinner. And I’ll take that shortcut any night of the week!!

This One Pan Pasta with Bacon and Peas is everything that I envisioned it to be. Easy and creamy with the salty bite from the bacon and a bit of freshness from the peas. There is only 8 oz of bacon in the whole dish, but the secret is to use some of the bacon grease to cook the onions instead of using olive oil or another oil. That way, the bacon flavor goes through the whole dish. A bit of sour cream gives the whole dish a creamy finish.

This One Pan Pasta with Bacon and Peas is sure to go on repeat in our house – and I’m definitely happy about that!

You can’t beat a one pan dinner that is one the table in no time! This One Pan Pasta with Peas and Bacon is easy and flavorful and a pasta dinner that is sure to go on repeat in our house!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz bacon diced
  • 3/4 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 8 oz dry penne pasta
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • salt and pepper
  • grated Parmesan for serving

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crisp. Remove with a slotted spoon to a paper towel lined plate. Drain all but about 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease in the skillet.

  • To the hot bacon grease, add the onion and cook until softened, about 5-8 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute. Pour in the chicken broth and the milk, and bring to a boil. Once the liquid is boiling, add the dry pasta and reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover the skillet and allow the pasta to cook until al dente, about 15 minutes.

  • Once the pasta is cooked, add the peas and continue to cook until they have defrosted. Stir in the sour cream and the reserved bacon. Taste and season to taste with salt and pepper.

  • Serve immediately, topped with parmesan cheese.

This was amazing! Just made it tonight. I doubled the recipe to fit a whole box of spaghetti; subbed fresh baby greens for the peas; wilted the greens with the onions and garlic and a can of chicken breast (gotta keep it simple). Delicious!! Thank you!

I’m questioning the measurements… it looks like soup.

It shouldn’t look like soup. Make sure you are adding dry pasta – not cooked pasta, because that would make it look like soup.

Wow loved it! You really need to eat it right away. Unexpectedly had to leave for an hour and it soaked everything up as any pasta will. Still delicious. I used medium shell pasta so some of the sauce was saved by the shells. Used Greek yogurt as didn’t have sour cream. Took a little more stirring. Next time will have sour cream. Thanks!

This is an amazing way to cook pasta! I thought I had peas, but noooooo! I did have frozen chopped baby spinach as a substitute and WOW! Really good. Thanks for this!

Delish! I modified this with spaghetti and left out the mushrooms because I had none… but I had plenty of fresh peas., so peas were the star. The pasta soaks up the broth while cooking making it so much more flavorful than when simply boiled in water. My very picky husband said he could eat the whole skillet full. I’ve never commented on a recipe but this one is easy and delicious.

Oh yes! Great one dish meal. Loved it. I added sun-dried tomatoes, and substituted 1/2 and 1/2 for milk and plain yogurt for sour cream.

Made this for my family and we fought over every last bit, including the yumminess at the bottom of the pan. I had some extra fresh asparagus, so used that instead of peas, and let it cook gently with the pasta for 3 minutes. Perfection.

I like that the sauce isn’t too heavy. I used GF pasta which needed a few more minutes to cook but it was still delicious! Thank you for a yummy recipe.
