Lorraine Ann Jackson Stanton, 82, of Harpers Ferry WV, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle on June 21, 2024.

Lorraine was born the sixth of twelve children on April 25, 1942 in Harpers Ferry, WV to the late Daniel D. Jackson Sr. and Mary Frances Taylor Jackson. She was affectionately known by many as “Teenie.” While she may have been small of stature, she was a woman who stood tall, strong, and fearless when it came to sticking up for herself and others.

Lorraine received her early education from local public schools in Jefferson County, WV. She married Daniel W. Campbell in March 1959 and began life as a military spouse. She continued her education and administrative skills in Baltimore MD. In 1972, she began a career with the US Department of the Army at Fort Hamilton, NY. As Lorraine traveled with her family to each military assignment, her achievements included many promotions, awards and accolades. She retired as a Lead Systems Manager at Fort Belvoir, VA in July 2002.

Lorraine married Clarence Stanton on November 9, 1989. After 30 years of dedicated government service, she realized her dream of building a home and returned with her husband to their beloved hometown in beautiful West Virginia. She loved spending time gardening, cooking for family, and of course ‘collecting’ her butterflies.

Lorraine loved the Lord and was a woman of great faith. She began her Christian walk at an early age at First Zion Baptist Church in Harpers Ferry, WV. She was very active in churches within her community including St. Paul Baptist Church in Kearneysville, First Zion Baptist Church in Harpers Ferry, and Judea Christian Community Church in Charles Town. Lorraine was designated Mother of the Church at both First Zion Baptist and Judea Christian Community Church and faithfully served the church in many capacities with her keen sense of organization. Through her meditation, devotional readings, and prayer, Lorraine reflected zeal and love for God. She enjoyed weekly Bible Study and loved sharing what she learned with others.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence “Rock” Stanton, sisters Linda Mae Jackson, Mary Cathryn Jackson Norton, Frances Louise Ware, Peggy Marie Colbert, and brothers James Clifton Jackson and Don Leon Jackson, Sr.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Monty Campbell (Melissa), El Cajon, CA and Danita Fedchock (Terry), Ithaca, NY, stepsons Vernon Robinson, Kearneysville and Steve Robinson, Martinsburg, WV, grandchildren Monty “Bray” Campbell, Crofton, MD and Lorraine Velez, Ithaca, NY, great-grandchildren Natalya Velez, Brayden Campbell, Terrence Jackson Velez (TJ), Eliana Campbell, and Kaliyah Campbell, step-grandchildren Michael Grabowsky, David Grabowsky, and Vanessa Ridley, step-great grandchildren Pharaoh and Ki Love, sisters, Margaret Smelley, Clinton, MD, Delores Foster, Harpers Ferry, WV, Karen Jackson, Alexandria, VA, brothers Daniel D.
