Last blog article / tutorial for the day then off to dinner with the family! The batch subclip tool in Avid Media Composer 2023.12 introduces the ability to create subclips from a sequence.Unfortunately, as of December 23, 2023, there seems to be a bug with it where "match edits" don't allow the creation of subsclips. It actually breaks Avid when you do that. Watch the video here:https://lnkd.in/gvvtnTjhAvid, am I doing something wrong? It seem to be an actual bug.

I watched a YouTube video that claimed it is faster to transcode your media into MXF in DaVinci Resolve then in Avid itself. So I gave it a shot. Here are the details of my test:I have an interview file that is 1GB in size, 58minutes TRT. mp4, AVC, 1920 x 1080 1585kb/s 30FPS. Not the highest quality, I know.I have Avid Media Composer Ultimate 2023.8.2 and DaVinci Resolve 18.6.4 Studio.I'm on a Mac M1 Pro with 16GB RAM.I transcoded that file (same drive location for both transcodes) and here are my results:Avid Transcode - 6 minutes 9.87 secondsDaVinci Resolve Transcode - 4 minutes 2.21 secondsIt seems transcoding into MXF in Resolve is ~40% faster (at least for this file). I didn't test other kinds of files.Anyone else using this workflow (ingest in Resolve, transcode, import into Avid, Edit in Avid)? What I like about this workflow, besides it being faster, is that it doesn't stop me from using Avid. I can have the transcode go on Resolve in another machine (or even the same machine) while I'm working in Avid.

One common question I get asked all the time about Media Composer is, how do I add a LUT, whether it's technical or creative. It's something very common, that's tucked away in Media Composer inside of your Source Settings and is called Color Encoding. In this lesson, we're going to talk about Color Encoding, how to install and apply LUT's to your linked footage and how to work with the RAW parameters of common formats including RED and BRaw! I'm super excited to have Videoguys.com back as a sponsor of the tutorials. Looking to get your MC Subscription license or Perpetual support upgrades? Gary Bettan, Jim Bask and the VG team have you covered!

We're back again with another Media Composer tutorial, and I thought that before we started talking about editing, we discussed probably the most important setting in Media Composer, and that is your Keyboard Settings and the Command Palette. You really can't have one without the other, and it will always be the absolute first setting you go to, so you can make sure you have the tools available to you at the click of a keyboard key, before you start editing. You'll also use the Command Palette to map tool functions to your keyboard, which will save you time from constantly going back to the drop down menus, to find what you need. Enjoy!
